    Anglian Water Renewable Energy Summit, Peterborough
    Anglian Water have set an aspirational target of generating around 25% of the energy used by the business (AW’s current energy demand is around 700 Gwh/yr) from renewable sources by 2015. Even with current plans for two wind turbine sites and to increase the percentage produced from biogas CHP, there is still a 10% gap in meeting this target.

    All of the key Anglian Water managers involved in the renewable energy strategy will be devoting a day to talk in detail about the challenges and the opportunities. They want to meet with companies in the renewable energy sector that can work with them to close this 10% gap.

    9 February – 29 March 2012 Renewable Energy: Lessons from the Community Sustainable Energy Programme (CSEP)
    BRE are running a free series of 9 one-day regional workshops to raise understanding of the current energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies available and how and where they can be effectively deployed. The launch event will be held at BRE, Watford on Thursday 9th February 2012 with other workshops being held at various venues across the UK throughout February and March.

    The first in a series of workshops supported by the Industrial Technology Leadership Forum. This workshop focuses on the production of multi-product or platform chemicals from biomass (e.g. algae, plant, animal, fungi, micro-organisms).     EPSO Fascination of Plants Day, Cambridge

    23 May 2012 Food security 2012; taking forward the Foresight project Global Food and Farming Futures (Westminster Food & Nutrition Forum Keynote Seminar) One year on from the launch of the Foresight report on Global Food and Farming Futures – which called for a redesign of the global food system focused around sustainability – planned sessions represent an opportunity to examine how far the report’s recommendations are being translated into policy and practice.
     
    The seminar includes a keynote address from Professor Sir John Beddington, Chief Scientific Adviser to HM Government and Head, Government Office for Science. Delegates will assess the key challenges to the food system including rising demand for food, increasing pressure on resources and the effects of global environmental change, and discuss how far technology should be used to increase agricultural productivity.
