  • Friday 16th July 2010

Small businesses with ideas for combating climate change are being offered the chance to compete for funding of up to £40,000 each.

The Shell Springboard programme, now in its sixth year, is open for entries with the aim of helping UK green businesses raise their profile and secure investment.  It offers financial support to businesses whose innovative ideas will lead to greenhouse gas reductions, provided they are commercially viable.

Chairman of Shell UK, James Smith, said: “Small businesses are a prolific reservoir of creative thinking on low-carbon technologies.  Shell Springboard offers no-strings financial awards to help these businesses get their ideas off the ground.”

Previous winners of the programme include delivery service Shiply.com and Aeristech, the developer of turbocharger technology.

Commenting on his win, Bryn Richards, founder of Aeristech, said: “Winning Shell Springboard was a big help to our fundraising round.  It enhanced our brand and helped us build momentum.”

He continued: “I would urge anyone out there with a good idea for tackling climate change to enter the awards.”

The deadline for entries is 5 November 2010.
