Experimental and demonstration trials at InCrops project partner Easton College

InCrops Agri-Business Officer, Dr Carlos Gonzalez-Esquivel is managing a series of agronomy trials on land provided by Easton College.  The purposes of these trials are to gain agronomic knowledge and to promote alternative and non-food crops at a commercial scale amongst farmers, farmer associations, and small and medium enterprises in the East of England region.  The trials are based at Easton College in Norfolk, the InCrops partner specialised on agriculture and land-based issues.

Experimental fibre crops established in the spring of 2009 are:

-    Hemp (Cannabis sativa), eight varieties at two sowing densities
-    Linseed (Linus usitatissimum), three varieties at two sowing densities

Demonstration plots were also established with the following crops:

-    Peppermint (Mentha x piperita)*
-    Watermint (Mentha aquatica)*
-    Scented geranium (Pelargonium graveolens)*
-    Lemon balm (Melissa oficinalis)*
-    Angelica (Angelica archangelica)*
-    Purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea)*
-    Roman chamomile (Anthemis nobile)*
-    Sea buckthorn (Hipophae ramnoides)*
-    Woad (Isatis tinctoria)
-    Camelina (Camelina sativa)
-    Chinese woad (Isatis indigotica)*
